Walz, Democrats Wrong on Multiple Counts
By Co. Stan Gudmundson, USAF (Ret), Rushford
Tim Walz’s Web site says that “the first priority of Congress must be stabilizing Iraq so we can bring our soldiers home safely.” Walz says he has a “two-fold” plan to do that. First he says that “we must stabilize the society by implementing proven, measurable milestones such as the ability to generate electricity, the availability of potable drinking water and a functioning sewer system (sic). Once these are in place, violence will decrease.” He points to Bosnia as proof that these measures will work. Gee, I thought the terrorists were trying to kill us for other reasons. And the major things they are so ticked off about are water, sewers, and electricity? You mean to tell me that we sent all those military people over there to rid the world of a terrible evil when all we had to do was send some plumbers and electricians? What an eye-opener. Second, he says that “we must turn over responsibility for supporting Iraq’s government to a regional security force” to “countries like Jordan, Kuwait, and Egypt.” Really? These non-democratic nations are now interested in helping Iraq become a democracy? When did this sudden shift in favor of a democratic Iraq occur? I must have missed that. Walz’s Web site tell us what his position is on many issues, but he says nothing about the economy. However, previous press releases on the Minnesota DFL Web site tell us what we need to know about Democrats. Item one’s headline says “the total cost to extend all of the Bush tax cuts would be $3.3 trillion over 10 years.” Cost to whom you ask? To liberals it will cost the government money. Republicans believe that the $3.3 trillion belongs to taxpayers. But liberals want the government to have it because they think you and I have too much of it. Liberals think the government can spend it smarter than we can. They don’t want it floating around the economy and actually promoting growth, either, as it is clearly doing. |
