As North Korea develops nuclear weapons, Walz calls to eliminate missile defense

10.9.2006

Rochester, Minn. - With North Korea developing both nuclear weapons and long-range missiles to deliver them, DFL candidate for Congress Tim Walz calls for the elimination of the national missile defense program (source: candidate questionnaire).

"Tim Walz would leave Americans vulnerable to blackmail by lunatics like Kim Jong Il," said Gutknecht for Congress Campaign spokesman Bryan Anderson. "It's sad that the only area where he actually does want to cut federal spending would endanger American families."

Gutknecht supports continuing the Strategic Missile Defense program to keep Americans safe from outside attacks. He has also supported strengthening border security to ensure those who mean to do Americans harm cannot enter the United States.

Gutknecht was first elected in 1994. He is a member of the House Agriculture, Government Reform and Science Committees. He serves as chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Department Operations, Oversight, Dairy, Nutrition, and Forestry.
